The Lawrence Community Shelter, in agreement with City staff, has deferred its application for a special use permit (SUP) to next Tuesday, April 20th. LCS was set to vie for the proposed Franklin Circle site, located near the Douglas County Jail, this Tuesday. A letter from an attorney representing businesses in the area has caused LCS to opt for more time. The letter stated that LCS' relocation in the area, which is an industrial, business district, would violate private development covenants and that neighboring businesses would take legal action to enforce the covenants. Both the City and LCS decided the legalities of the SUP and convenant issue would bog down Tuesday's meeting and that further review was necessary before addressing the matter at a City Commission meeting. |
