City Awarded Millions in State and Federal Stimulus Funds!

The total amount awarded to the City of Lawrence is $9,649,315 all for local projects. The City of Lawrence published the great news of the award money and broke out each project by location and amount in the December issue of The Flame, the city's newsletter.  The money is going to improve the city infrastructure, fund community development programs, provide new technology, upgrade the local transit system, and expand energy efficiency and conservation programs.  Click to read where the money is going.

Senator Roberts Comments on President's Health Care Reform and Afghanistan

Senator Pat Roberts makes the following comments through an e-newsletter sent on December 11, 2009.

Health Care continues to be the top issue in the U.S. Senate. The current $2.5 trillion health care reform bill will result in higher premiums, tax increases and Medicare cuts to pay for more government. This bill cuts home health care, nursing homes, hospitals, Medicare, and taxes the middle class to pay for this government expansion that will still leave 24 million Americans uninsured.

State Emergency Operations Activated

The Adjutant General activated State Emergency Operations Center to a Level One - Watch as of 8 am this morning as the winter storm that flew in last night continue to pelt the county.  Snowfall overnight was reported to range from 2 to 5 1/2 inches, but around my house it looked more like accumulation equal to the powdered sugar I put on my french toast. Still, more snow is expected and it can easily turn into something nasty in no time at all. In fact, more snow is expected overnight.

The President spoke today at The Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C.  Here is what he said:
