Senator Roberts - TARP is Not a Blank Check

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today said the Troubled Asset Recovery Program (TARP), which has spent billions in federal funds to address failing financial institutions, should sunset December 31 to avoid further waste of taxpayer dollars.

At issue is the announcement by the President today that remaining taxpayer dollars in the TARP are to be spent, under the guise of job creation, in much the same manner that has brought the nation to 10 percent unemployment.

President Obama's Plan to Spend Our Way Out of Recession

The Associated Press reports that President Obama outlined new plan for the economy that includes a multilbillion-dollar stimulus and job proposals.  The AP quotes the president as saying the must continue to "spend our way out of this recession" until more Americans are back at work.

It Is Dreaming of a White Christmas!

Well, it is just after 10:00 PM Monday night, and the snow has arrived.  For those of you hankering for a white Christmas, it arrived a bit early.  For the rest of us - it is just too early. 

I just got done driving across town and can tell you the roads aren't bad.  Drive carefully, and you are sure to be fine.  But that's tonight.  Tomorrow, the driving could be treacherous.  Or, let's be honest - the snow could be gone and the sun shining to bring the temperature up to a steamy 60 degrees.  This is Kansas after-all!

Winter Wonderland!!

It is a wonderland now!  I'd be happy if the snow stayed as the trace I woke up to, but alas, the weather center is reporting a Winter Storm Warning that is lasting through to 6 AM tomorrow.  Oh the horror.  Road conditions are fine now, but start stopping a bit sooner then you normally would. Sooner then your grandmother normally would too.

White House Press Secretary's Statement on Iraqi's Election Law

"The United States welcomes the resolution adopted December 6 by Iraq's Council of Representatives regarding the election law.  This legislative action will allow Iraq to hold national elections within Iraq's constitutional framework.  It is a decisive moment for Iraq's democracy and we congratulate the Iraqi people and their elected representatives.  As part of the ongoing U.S. dialogue with the Iraqi leadership, the President and Vice President spoke on the morning of December 6 with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Masoud Barzani. The President and the Vice President confirmed the U.S. commitment to a long-term relationship with Iraq, including the KRG."
