Lawrencians Help Haiti While Celebrating Bob Marley

Bob Marley B-Day Celebration - Haitian Relief Benefit February 6th, 2010

Larryville.com received a letter from one of its readers announcing an upcoming benefit concert for Haiti being held February 6th, 2010 at the Granada Theater in downtown Lawrence.  For a mere $7.00 donation you get admission to one of the greatest events of the year!  The three bands, The Kingstonians, The Irietions, and the Checkered Beat come together every year to celebrate the birth of Bob Marley.  This year, they are donating all the proceed to the Red Cross Haitian disaster fund.

In every college town, there is a large number of pizzerias from which you can choose your favorite. In the spirit of exploration for both mind and taste buds, I’ve decided to devote some select columns to various pizzerias in Lawrence. Join me on this exploration of the Pizza Experiences that Lawrence has to offer!

My journey starts with a fun place at 704 Massachusetts in downtown Lawrence called Rudy’s Pizzeria. What a great place to start!

Now that we’re back, let me tell you a little story about a place I call Jimmie Johns Gourmet Sandwich Shop, located @ 601 Kasold Dr.

President Obama Reflects on King's Contribution

Yesterday, President Obama spoke at the Vermont Avenue Baptist Church, Washington D.C.

Mr. Stewart, Director of Organizing for America forwarded this link.  He states that the President made stirring speech that reminds us of the lessons that Dr. King and his generation still hold for us as we confront the challenges of today.

Winter time is in full swing and for some of us - it is a season too long.  Luckily we got some great tips from Practicalmagic Feng Shui owner Betsy Forcade designed to help each of us not only enjoy this snowy time, but embrace it in its entirety!

Immerse Yourself in the Season
Observing the natural seasonal changes by getting outside and playing in the wintery weather is a great way to connect.  There's so much to experience--the wind's chill, eagles floating above, muted colors, the honking of passing geese.  When the snows come, find an open field or park and immerse yourself in the spectacle.  And don't forget to dress warmly!
