The High Cost of Dropping Out
Written by Lauren Krivoshia

America, we have a crisis.

It’s sweeping the nation, hurting all of us and it’s nothing new. It’s been happening for decades, so maybe it’s better described as a silent epidemic. That was the title of the May 2007 summit where Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings said, “Today, a quality education is more important than ever and solving our dropout crisis is not just a moral imperative, it's an economic necessity. The United States has the most severe income gap between high school graduates and dropouts in the world.”

The questions on the November 4th ballot regarding the fate of the public transportation system in Lawrence were answered in an overwhelming fashion.

The adage goes that if one gives a man enough rope, he will hang himself. With a resounding “Bring the Noose,” the voters chose to hang themselves with higher taxes.

A World of Media Neglect
Written by Tim Miller

In Lawrence, as in most towns, everyone exclaims over the ineptitude of the principal local paper. In our blue town the complaints usually focus on the daily’s editorials, and especially on the Saturday column, written by the paper’s aging godfather. The daily unsigned editorials used to be routinely offensive, but a changing of the guard among the anonymous scribes has made them much less disgusting than they used to be, even though they continue to champion the Chambercrat agenda.
