Congressman Jerry Morgan released the following statement: "The mission in Afghanistan must succeed," Moran said. "It remains central to our country's security that the Taliban and al-Qaeda terrorists be defeated, that Afghanistan govern itself, and that the region be stabilized to prevent a safe haven for those who want to destroy our way of life. Our troops should be given the support necessary to achieve success. The upcoming months will tell us whether these additional resources are sufficient. "While the deployment of additional troops is needed, I am opposed to the President's arbitrary timetable for withdrawal. He should focus on a victory strategy, not an exit strategy. The President is sending mixed messages and appears to want it both ways-more troops to satisfy his generals' recommendations and a timetable for withdrawal to satisfy his Democratic supporters in Congress." |

Senator Roberts posted remarks on his website regarding the President's plan for Afghanistan: “I have long said that in order to finish the missions in both Iraq and Afghanistan, we must trust the advice of our commanders on the ground,” Senator Roberts said. “I am especially confident in experienced leaders like General Petraeus and General Caldwell, who both recently served as the Commanding General at Fort Leavenworth. I have no doubt that General Petraeus is bringing his extensive experience to bear and that General Caldwell is working hard to ensure the Afghan forces will eventually be self sufficient, allowing our troops to come home." |

Nearly $8 billion a year in economic activity attributed to military in the state Military men and women not only contribute to our nation’s security, but also to the Kansas economy according to a new study commissioned by Governor Mark Parkinson’s Military Council. “Thousands of Kansans have answered the call to serve and protect our nation, both at home and abroad. While we can never repay them and their families for the many sacrifices they make on our behalf, we can follow our words with action. Four years ago, we enacted the Kansas Military Bill of Rights to support service men, women and their families,” Parkinson said. “Today, this study reaffirms that thanks to our military bases we are not only a safer and more secure state, but that there is a positive economic impact to Kansas communities. This data strengthens our continuing effort to be the most military-friendly state in the America.” |
