The directors at Clinton Lake would like you to know that winter is a great time to enjoy nature.  In fact, news from the US Army Corps of Engineers reports that while several areas are closed, several remain open and feature enjoyment year-round.

Bloomington Park and Rockhaven Park are closed to camping for the winter. The next available camping in these areas will be April 1, 2010. The Bloomington area has boat ramps which will remain open and is always open to pedestrian traffic. Rockhaven is open for hiking and equestrian activities, but visitors will need to park in the day use parking lot, south of the Rockhaven campground.

Woodridge Park and Clinton State Park remain open for camping throughout the winter. The gate at Woodridge will be closed by mid-November, but campers and hikers are welcome to park outside the gate (please do not block the gate, in case of emergency) and walk in. Clinton State Park does close campground #1, but keeps campground #3 open throughout the winter. Clinton State Park boat ramps are open all winter.

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is please to report that Leadership Lawrence Class of 2009 has launched a charitable and dynamic class project, called the Lawrence Virtual Food Drive. This project is a quick and easy way to purchase critically needed items at substantially discounted prices. It is extremely easy and fun, just click here. Remember, it only takes a few clicks to help prevent hunger in the Lawrence community!

During the first three months of this year, 7,262 people received aid from the five primary food pantries, which support local at-risk families—a 28 percent increase over the same period last year. While many generous donors help these pantries with their contributions of non-perishable foods, there is a growing need to supply pantries with donations to purchase the most nourishing and critical foods.
