There were times when responsible Republicans like Dwight Eisenhower, Bob Dole and Nancy Kassebaum put together business friendly legislation that benefitted everyone through strong economic and job growth, reasonable regulation and sound fiscal policy.
The ideology that drove the Republican party; fiscal discipline, strong national defense, moral fortitude and public service have now been abandoned by party leadership that is the lapdog of mega corporations and the super wealthy. Through the systematic destruction of the regulatory environment, implementation of regressive taxation and incompetent handling of national defense the leadership of the Republican party is busy destroying the America I love. |

At no time in my adult life have I been more embarrassed to live on the west side of Lawrence than last night at the East Side People’s Market where concerned members of the community got together to discuss the recent uptick in violent crime.

Editor:
Recently I attempted to cash a check for $129 given to me by
a Lawrence merchant for merchandise
that I returned. I took the check to US
Bank, where it was drawn. I was outraged
to discover that US Bank required me to provide a thumb and forefinger
fingerprint, and pay $5.00 to get money that was rightfully mine. When I objected, the bank manager told me
that, "Every bank does this."
She finally agreed to wave the fee this one time, but I still had to
submit to the humiliation of the fingerprinting.
