For the past three years a local group of geeks has been working to build one of the most sophisticated and successful municipal WiFi networks in the world. The network now covers most of Lawrence and is capable of providing true broadband to almost any WiFi enabled device.
When you’ve build something this cool, what do you do with it? The answer: anything you can think of.
Inspired by the Pixar movie "Wall-E" Lawrence Freenet volunteers have decided to build a robot that uses the organization’s WiFi network to communicate with its operators.

The robot is envisioned as a demonstration of what is possible once you have access to a high speed network from anywhere in the community. The project will be lead by Nick Mucci, a long time Freenet volunteer and the non-profit’s newest board member. As part of the project, the team will be documenting its progress on Larryville’s newest blog "WiFi Living".
Volunteers involved in the project will learn a little bit about robotics while at the same time demonstrating the power of true wireless broadband.
