Ah, Spring. Thawing my winter paws and awakening nature. So refreshing. So majestic. So…..ahh….ah-chooo! Oh well. This gorgeous greenery will be up in flames soon enough, burnt to a crisp in our summer skillet. Here’s what’s cookin’ already:
Monday the 5th begins a strong week of live music with American Music Club and Olympic Size with Expassionates at The Record Bar. On Thursday Murder By Death (previewed this issue), Dios Malos and Gasoline Heart will visit The Jackpot while goofy garage popsters The Presidents of the United States of America rock The Beaumont Club in KC. Ra Ra Riot will play with The Little Ones, Fourth of July and Boo and Boo Too at The Jackpot on Thursday the 8th and the next night The Breeders (previewed this issue) return to The Bottleneck with a brand new batch of songs.
Saturday the 10th will see the return of Lawrence’s prodigal son as White Flight touches down at The Jackpot, and the next night the brilliant singer-songwriter Josh Ritter will perform at The Granada with Dawn Landes. Kansas City has two interesting shows on Tuesday the 13th with She Wants Revenge playing The Beaumont Club with The Virgins and Be Your Own Pet (previewed this issue), and a reunited version of The Police will play with the one and only Elvis Costello and The Imposters at The Sprint Center. What the hell are we supposed to do on Wednesday the 14th? You can either witness the world-class songwriting skills of Jeff Tweedy and Wilco in downtown Lawrence, or you can behold the international electronic superstar M.I.A. (previewed this issue) at Liberty Hall. Do I have to choose?

The proof is in the pudding, here’s a bowl of it:

Is it just me, or is this
winter stuff sort of dragging on this year? I know I complain a lot,
but c’mon Mama Nature, throw me a frickin’ bone here. If it wasn’t for
the ridiculously good music and arts scene here, I’d be rethinking
whether or not to renew my Lawrence pass. Here’s why I’m sticking
around this month:

The holidays have come and
gone and just like that we are back into full swing here in the valley
with live music. Lawrence is absolutely dripping with shows this month,
so if you have the fortitude to brave the cold you will be handsomely
rewarded. Here’s how:
